On Friday, November 10th we honored men and women who have served in all branches of the United States military on our annual Veteran’s community outreach day. This special day began with a breakfast, and meet and greet session where veterans and their families met with various groups of students.
Avery Goon, Paige Thomas, Devin Darr, and Max Warner who volunteered to serve veterans on the Honor Bus trip and tour were one of those groups. The Honor Bus trip is a program that provides transportation to Washington DC and amenities for veterans while touring historical landmarks and monuments. The Veterans day assembly also included a prelude of music conducted by Crestview High School band director, Hannah Wolf, and a musical selection performed by the choir, directed by Trevor Garrabrant and the reading of an original poem titled, “Strangers on the Sidewalk,” which was written by Jeff Vanderpool. Crestview graduate, Jared Smith, and United States Army veteran, shared his experiences and provided a reflective message. Jared currently works for the Veterans Commission of Ohio.
The 8th annual Thanksgiving meal was held on Tuesday, November 26th for students, staff, and senior citizens. Staff and community were able to share a meal and fellowship together. At the same time, we were able to give back to our community. Enough food was donated and prepared so that we could bring delicious meals to a number of community and faith based organizations. These meals were personally delivered by staff and students from our school. We want to say thank you to our students, parents, staff, faith based organizations, and community donors who helped make this event possible. A special thank you goes out to our food service staff who worked with Gordon Food Service who donated products valued around $1,183 for our Thanksgiving Dinner! We were blessed and have been able to bless others.
