I want to begin by thanking all of the families who set aside time to come in during parent-teacher conferences this fall. We are very fortunate to have this level of investment in student success. Parental involvement is an important influence on student achievement.
Our fall athletes had a successful season. 7th grade Volleyball finished 9-4 for the season, while 8th grade was 12-2 in conference. 7th grade Football was 3-2-1 for the season, and the Firelands Conference co-champion 8th grade team was 6-2 (6-1 FC). Girls Cross Country finished 3rd in conference, with the boys finishing 2nd. Additionally, I want to give a shout out to the cheerleaders for their hard work and show of school spirit throughout the football season. It is amazing seeing the growth this athletes achieve from the beginning of the season to the end.
We have some exciting events in late November and December. On November 20, our 8th graders were scheduled to visit Pioneer Career and Technology Center and NC State College as a component of our career and college focus. 7th grade will travel to Playhouse Square in December to attend a matinee performance of "A Christmas Carol" in conjunction with a Charles Dickens unit (thanks to Crestview Parents Club and Student Council for assisting with the cost of this trip). 6th Grade will hold their annual Market Day on December 17, featuring a variety of student-made goods and activities. Market Day is a great entrepreneurship experience and proceeds go to offset Outdoor School costs. Please mark your calendar for our middle school band and choir concerts on Monday, December 9.
An area of instructional focus for the district’s teachers this year is “Depth of Knowledge.” Depth of Knowledge framework provides a common language to size-up the complexity of questioning and assessment techniques used in teaching. A good balance of recalling, applying, analyzing, and augmenting or transferring information on go into a thorough understanding of important concepts.
