First Winter Formal Was a Blast
Crestview High School held its first-ever winter formal on Feb. 10th. The dance
was held in the high school. The idea of this winter formal came from the students
themselves. The National Honors Society students have been begging for a winter
formal for the past year. This year they were allowed to plan out and execute the dance,
so the students got right to work.
The student committee chair Mallorie McAvene led the other students through the
planning phase. The team had organized a budget for the dance. With this budget, they
found a DJ, made a list of decorations they wanted to use, and created the tickets and
social media design to advertise the formal. Faculty member Erica Rucker was in
charge of the funds and ensured to get all the supplies and coordinate chaperones for
the dance.
“I just can’t express enough of how student-led this dance was. I was almost completely
hands-off. I just made sure they were on track with their timeline. They took it and ran
with it,” said Rucker.
After all the hard work the students were able to have their dance on the 10th. It was a
neat fun little dance. Of course there was a DJ playin music that the students were able
to boogie too. They were also able to get some cool lights that fit the fun vibe of the
night. There was also a small photo booth that students could get a photo to remember
the night.
The National Honors Society are very interested in throwing a dance very similar to this
in the future. The money that was made from the dance will be used to put on service
events for the Crestview Community and to have students attend leadership
conferences in the future. Overall, this student lead dance was a major success and fun
time for the students.
