Crestview Student Artists Shine Once Again at Artapalooza 2024
Crestview High School’s outstanding achievements in art were recognized at Artapolooza 2024, hosted by the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center from April 12th to April 17th. That evening Crestview High once again had an opportunity to share the amazing things that are happening at the school.
Crestview High School once again demonstrated its excellence in the arts, with Alexis Thomas securing 1st place in the high school division. Alexis' accomplishment reflects her dedication and the exceptional guidance provided by our art department. Alexis has been a dedicated artist in her time at Crestview and has continued to grow each and every year.
“Art is a form of expression and passion for me – it can let me present to the world how I feel about certain things in my life,” Alexis shared. “It has been an outlet for me my whole life. It makes me feel proud of myself to be noticed for my art and this event has been a great opportunity to get my artwork out to the viewing public.”
Additionally, Crestview’s esteemed art teacher, Destini Oler, received the Best Display award at this year's event. Destini's commitment to fostering creativity and nurturing our students' artistic talents has earned well-deserved recognition. The excellence displayed in a variety of mediums impressed both judges and visitors to the gallery throughout the week.
Ms. Oler gave the credit to the students: “For me it is all about the students. The students have been super excited about Artapalooza and all of the different awards for students in the Mid-Ohio area. They not only see the other artwork, but they also get to interact with students from other schools and get ideas for what they can bring back to Crestview.” She continued, “Crestview holds so much talent and events like Artapalooza allow our students to share their artwork to a larger community and network with other budding artists. And the gallery experience allows them to think of their own future in art and desire to have their artwork displayed in galleries in their adult lives.”
Congratulations also to Abigail Kelsey, Olivia Prosser, Alyvia Dean, Chloe Wetzel, Noah Gilliam, and Mallorie McAvene for receiving Honorable Mention Medals. Their recognition further highlights the depth of talent within our school. Each of these students have honed their craft under the supervision and guidance of Ms. Oler.
The judges for the event shared that they were amazed to see not only quantity but quality out of the Crestview students who placed in the show. Ms. Oler and her students are already excited about future opportunities to share their artwork with the public.
